Our Practice Model
Dr. Underwood and team provide traditional talk therapy utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, and skills-based therapies (REBT; DBT). Dr. Underwood and her team are trained in EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). They treat a high volume of clients and families who have experienced adverse life events and complex traumas. When deemed appropriate, animal assisted psychotherapy is available to clients. Psychotherapy is offered in-office or by HIPAA secure telehealth.
Many clients struggle with intuitive eating and overall wellness when experiencing symptoms of a mood disorder (e.g., depression, anxiety, etc.), eating disorder, or other mental health issues (e.g. addiction). Mood can be significantly impacted by nutrition and fitness. Underwood Counseling & Consultation,PLLC collaborates with wellness experts to provides fitness and nutritional coaching to clients.
Many clients seek treatment with Underwood Counseling & Consultation, PLLC in lieu of using medication to manage symptoms. Much improvement in mental health has been found in the use of psychotherapy in conjunction with lifestyle changes. This is undeniable in the research literature. There are times when medication can be a valuable adjunct to psychotherapy. The keys are finding a psychiatrist who understands the client’s symptoms; is willing to collaborate with the psychotherapist; and does not over-prescribe. If a psychiatric consultation is determined to be appropriate, Underwood Counseling & Consultation, PLLC will provide a referral to one of the many psychiatrists with whom they collaborate.
